Your everyday as a dentist in Scandinavia
As a dentist, you meet many different people, whom most are very grateful for receiving help. Sometimes you will encounter patients who have limited finances, dental fear or other difficulties making their treatment more challenging. It requires for you as a dentist to be professional and not let your own feelings and needs guide the patient’s treatment. In our experience, the dental profession is a wonderful profession that teaches us to listen, communicate and help. In our clinics, we want our dentists to master and perform all kinds of treatments. We want our dentists to possess the necessary skills so the patient can avoid changing clinician in consequence of a referral. We help our dentists to grow as professionals, and thus be able to offer patients advanced treatments, such as dental implants, oral- and periodontal surgery, orthodontics, aesthetic treatments, complicated prosthodontic and endodontic cases, as well as treatment under general anesthesia.
What a dentist need in order to thrive at Orbdent
To succeed in an industry and market that is in constant evolution, it requires that we as dentists are adaptable. We need to be genuinely interested in developing and expanding our competence at pace with a changing market. You will need to manage and evolve with changing patient behavior and needs. You should be able to learn quickly how to work with modern equipment and materials. In addition, administrative skills are needed to communicate the patient treatment plan.
A good dentist will need social skills to build relationships with patients and to earn their trust. We need to be interested in our reputation and actively work for good reviews, both among patients and colleagues. We need to do qualitative work in order to keep the patients we receive, and have them recommend us further. We expect and request that our dentists focus on preventive care and treatment, and continuously follow up our patients. As a dentist at Orbdent, you need to be truly interested in the profession and have a desire to evolve and improve, also through courses and further education.
Specific requirements for foreign dentists
In order to submit an application, you need to provide proof of:
- Mastering the local language at C2 level or higher
- Local license to practice as a dentist
As we all know, communication is the key when it comes to success. The majority of younger Scandinavians in urban areas speak English in addition to their mother tongue, but health personnel is obliged by law to keep the patient records in the specific country’s first language. We do want all our co-workers to be successful and further develop with the organisation, and we’ve noticed that they who master the country’s language at C2 level or higher, reach success much faster.
Your license to practice as a dentist also has to be approved and translated. In Sweden it’s called license (legitimation), and you’ll find more information from Socialstyrelsen. The Norwegian equivalent is called authorization (autorisasjon). The Norwegian license (lisens) is not a full authorization and is not sufficient for a job application at Orbdent. SAK provides further information on the matter.
At the moment we do not provide language courses or relocation packages, although we’re planning to do so in the future.
